New Government Policies to Boost Renewable Energy Demand

Report Date

December 2009

Release Date

January 2010

Document summary

Focus is on expanding demand for renewable energy in power generation particularly wind and solar power. Debate on the post-Kyoto framework could push renewables centre stage. Wind and solar power are likely to be on the agenda as these markets have seen brisk growth in recent years. From a policy perspective, focus will be on large GHG emitters and countries with wind/solar power markets big enough to have an impact. This includes Japan, the US, China, India, Russia, Australia, Germany and Spain. China and the US, the world’s biggest emitters are likely to have significant influence on wind/solar power markets.
